El Guadalquivir és un riu de la península Ibèrica que neix a la Cañada de Aguafría, a 1.400 metres d'altura, a la Serra de Cazorla . Discorre per les províncies de Jaén, Còrdova i Sevilla i desemboca a Sanlúcar de Barrameda , en un ample estuari compartit amb la província de Huelva.Els romans el van anomenar Betis, ja que era el riu principal de la Bètica i la serralada on neix tant el Guadalquivir com els seus principals afluents es diu Bètica. És l'únic riu espanyol navegable, des de Sevilla fins a l'oceà Atlàntic. Entre la capital andalusa i l'estuari s'estén una important zona humida: les marismes del Guadalquivir.
