La LAV Madrid-Saragossa-Barcelona-Frontera Francesa és una línia d'alta velocitat feta perquè els trens hi circulin a 300-350 km/h, excepte en alguns trams planejats amb anterioritat, quan es pensava en velocitat màximes de 200-250 km/h. Des de març de 2008 ja és completa fins a Barcelona, i el 2013, el 15 de desembre, s'inaugura la connexió amb Perpinyà, que permet arribar fins a París. El tram en servei de 621 km. entre Madrid i Barcelona redueix en uns 70 kilòmetres la distància ferroviària entre Madrid i Barcelona, i a més redueix molt el temps de recorregut.
