La Vía Verde de la Sierra transcorre 36 km al peu de les muntanyes més meridionals d'Espanya, entre els municipis d'Olvera i Puerto Serrano . És un llit de ferrocarril mai utilitzat amb 30 túnels i 4 ponts.
Aquest és el catorzè túnel. Té 275 metres de llarg i està il·luminat.
El túnel més llarg és el túnel Castillo, de 990 metres de llarg. S'il·luminen els túnels de més de 150 metres o amb un recorregut corbat. Abans de la restauració dels túnels s'utilitzaven per al cultiu de bolets, com indica alguns, o servien com a corral.
Per a la seva construcció, l'obertura i progressió a l'interior dels túnels es va excavar a mà . Això implicava l'ús d'encenalls i bigues de fusta, com ara a la mineria , per suportar les parets i el sostre.
