Grand-Bru har fået sit navn fra den ligeså kaldte gade Grand-Bru, der løber fra landsbyen til den nærliggende Villers-Sainte-Gertrude. Oprindeligt dannede Grand-Bru sammen med Villers-Sainte-Gertrude og den lille by Vieux Fourneau en autonom kommune, men de blev i 1977 fusioneret med nogle omkringliggende kommuner til kommunen Durbuy. I Grand-Bru står der nogle huse og gårde, samt en stor campingplads ved siden af.
