Statuen forestiller et pige, der tisser, og kaldes Vrouwke Pis som den kvindelige pendant til Manneken Pis. I Zelzate og omegn er hun kendt som Mietje Stroel eller, ifølge den officielle version: pigen der tissede hvor det passede hende. Der blev også opfundet en historie om, at hun blev efterladt på en losseplads og opdraget af en smugler. Til ære for Mietje blev også Gardet af Mietje Stroel oprettet.
