I nærheden af Hoogstraten ligger også de to bemærkelsesværdige grænsefænomener af de belgiske enklaver i Baarle-Hertog. Det er mange små øer, som Belgien er fuldstændig omgivet af Nederland.
Denne kuriositet opstod i 1198, da hertugen af Brabant gav en del af landsbyen Baarle til hr. af Breda som len. Denne tilstand har bestået den dag i dag.
