Gående ud fra toponymet -zele kan denne "villa" bestemt dateres tilbage til den frankiske periode (7. århundrede). I Bekkerzeel bosatte en frankisk herremand sig nær Schapenbaan, som er den gamle romerske vej fra Asse til Elewijt og vejen der fører til Bijgaarden.
