Rumbeke producerede en af de bedste i musikverdenen. Omkring 1490 blev Adriaen Willaert født her. Et par årtier senere ville han blive kapelmester ved San Marcobasilikaen i treogtredive år. En kapelmester er en person, der har ansvaret for udførelsen af musik. Flandern lå dengang i top, når det kom til musikproduktion. Adriaen Willaert anses for at være den centrale figur i den venetianske skole og pioner inden for den italienske madrigal. Et madrigal er en sekulær overvejende vokal musikkform, der opstod i Norditalien i det 14. århundrede.
