Berneau er en by i den belgiske provins Liège og en delkommune af Dalhem. Indtil 1. januar 1977 var det en selvstændig kommune. Berneau blev grundlagt på en bølgende lerbund. Landskabet ligner meget det i den nærliggende hollandske Syd-Limburg. Landsbyen nævnes i middelalderlige kilder som Berne og Bernauw. Greverne af Dalhem ejede der en borg. Denne tilhørte senere den betydningsfulde familie Van Gulpen i Overmaas. Skipperiet Berneau grænsede også hovedsageligt til de dalhemske skipperier Moelingen, 's-Gravenvoeren, Weerst og Bolbeek. Alligevel var Berneau ikke en del af Dalhem, men det tilhørte de elleve banker af Sint-Servaas, en ejendom af kapittelet af Sint-Servaas i Maastricht. Hertugen af Brabant ejede den høje jurisdiktion i landsbyen.
