Genoelselderen har siden 1977 været en del af den belgiske kommune Riemst i Haspengouw og ligger langs den gamle vej, der forenede Tongeren med Maastricht. Landsbyen havde 544 indbyggere i 2016.
I 1157 blev der første gang skriftligt nævnt en ejendom ved navn Heldren eller Aldor. Genoel kommer fra Godenoel, som i det 13. århundrede var herre over Elderen.
