Byen Haltinne skal findes i et udvalgt hjørne af den namuranske Condroz, cirka 5 km syd for Andenne og på højderne, der dominerer den smukke Samsondal. Det blev allerede i 747 nævnt som Haltna - hvilket ville betyde 'lille hal' - i arkiverne fra Stavelot-Malmedy klosteret. Fra det 11. til det 13. århundrede vegeterede ikke mindre end fem lenegodser på det nuværende Haltinne, stedet hvor kirken og slottet nu befinder sig. Haltinne har engang haft en interessant industri for jern, kul, modelleringsler og kalksten. I dag lever man primært af skov- og landbrug.
