Nu går du på taget af jernbanen, der forbinder Nordstationen med Schuman. Snart fylder Berlaymont-bygningen udsigten. I hundrede år har søstrene fra Institut des Dames de Berlaymont her givet en solid uddannelse til piger fra aristokratiske kredse. Indtil søstrene i 1960'erne blev overbevist af fremadskuende bygherrer til at sælge deres nedslidte bygning til den belgiske stat. Denne lod bâtimentet til Den Europæiske Kommission blive bygget. Berlaymont-bygningen gennemgik en seriøs renovering i 1990'erne, men bevarede sit karakteristiske udseende med central søjle og fire ujævne fløje. Siden da har den en gåpromenade ved foden, en facade der reagerer på varme og lys og et båd-element på taget, hvor Kommissionen holder møde.
