I det 12. århundrede var Buggenhoutskoven en del af en kæmpe skov kaldet 'Beuckenhoudt'. Kommunen Buggenhout skylder sit navn til denne skov. Bukkejævnerne dominerede tidligere denne skov, men de har måttet vige pladsen for vintereg. Ingen steder i Flandern finder du flere vinterege end her. I 2013 udvides skoven med hele 10 hektar. Hollebeek snor sig gennem dalen af skoven. Her kan du måske få et glimt af den sjældne ildsalamander. Buggenhoutskoven er den nordligste region i Belgien, hvor denne salamander findes.
