Geologisk finder man her ikke alt for mange sten i denne region. Og det er selv sagt eufemistisk udtrykt. Der findes ingen natursten her. Derfor blev min nysgerrighed vakt med toponymet "Steentjesbos". I sig selv forekommer "sten" eller "klump" i mange flamske toponymer, fordi det angiver klipper, der kommer op fra undergrunden. Men dem har du ikke her. Hvor skulle det navn så komme fra? Et informationsskilt i kanten af skoven giver forklaringen:
"Steentjesbos får sit navn fra skovstierne belagt med rester af sten fra et gallo-romersk bygningskompleks"
