Graven af Ernest Claes og Stephanie Vetter på kirkegården ved klosteret i Averbode. Ernest Claes blev berømt for sin bog De Witte, en lokalroman om en drillepind i humoristisk stil. I Flandern var han en af de mest læste forfattere. Nogle af hans værker blev offentliggjort under pseudonymet G. van Hasselt. Claes blev født i en landbrugsfamilie med ni børn. Hans mor og far måtte arbejde hårdt og var begge efterkommere af generationer af landbrugsfamilier fra Zichem. Som barn var han nogle gange doven, genstridig og ulydig. I skolen, under strafstudie, læste han i De Leeuw van Vlaanderen, et værk af Hendrik Conscience.
