Rubens var en samler og elsker af alt, hvad der var smukt. I dag ville han nyde sig selv i Kloosterstraat med dens mange antikvitetsbutikker. Selv fandt han en af de største skatte i sit liv, sin første kone Isabella. Her lå huset til hendes far, Jan Brant. Det nygifte par boede et stykke tid hos ham. Også kartografen og geografen Abraham Ortelius boede på denne gade.
Gaden skylder sit navn til det legendariske Sankt Michael Kloster, som indtil 1124 var den eneste sognekirke i Antwerpen. Rubens færdiggjorde her altertavlen "De hellige tre kongers tilbedelse". Franskmændene tog det med sig og gav det en æresplads i Louvre. Efter Waterloo endte det på Det Kongelige Museum for Skønne Kunster.
