Hvis oprindelsen af dette navn er den samme som den i Hageland, har det ikke noget at gøre med vores nuværende betydning af "marginalitet". Navnet kunne stamme fra syge eller sårede soldater, der i Napoleons tid blev kaldt "marginaler", og som kom til denne region for at komme sig.
