Ifølge Pierre Bertrand var landsbyen Puplinge en del af det gamle Bourgogne og blev bosat i 443 af 'le peuple germanique des Burgondes'. Navnet på landsbyen stammer fra gammeldansk og er siden blevet ændret for at passe til franske staveregler ved at tilføje et 'e' i slutningen. Bertrand anfører yderligere, at navnene på landsbyerne Presinge, Puplinge, Corsinge, Merlinge osv. 'tendens til at indikere et område med germansk overvægt'.
