Dalen strækker sig fra Berninapasset via Poschiavo til Tirano. Gennem dalen flyder Poschiavino. Valposchiavo er især populært blandt turister på grund af Bernina-Bahn, som forbinder Pontresina med Tirano. Valposchiavo er en af de italientalende dele af Graubünden. Cirka 50 % af indbyggerne er katolikker, og cirka 50 % er protestanter, hvilket gør det til et af de få protestantiske italientalende områder i verden.
