Soltau er en kommune i den tyske delstat Niedersachsen, beliggende i Landkreis Heidekreisen og ligger på et centrum af veje mod Hamburg, Bremen og Celle. Byen ligger ved floden Böhme og fik byretter i 1388, men blev allerede nævnt i dokumenter i 937 og har nu 21.178 indbyggere. Nabo byer inkluderer blandt andet Bad Fallingbostel, Bispingen og Bomlitz.
I historien blev byen kendt for slaget den 28. juni 1519, som fandt sted på den nærliggende Soltauer Heide mellem hærene af biskop Jan af Hildesheim og hærene af hertug Henrik VII af Braunschweig-Lüneburg.
