Kommunen tilhører sammenslutningen Dransfeld, der har sit administrationssæde i byen Dransfeld. Stedet Scheden opstod fra stederne Nieder- og Oberscheden.
Scheden ligger i Naturpark Münden ved den sydvestlige fod af Hohen Hagen og bliver gennemstrømmet af den østlige Weser-biflod Schede. I den sydøstlige del af kommunen ligger Meensen og kildeområdet for den vestlige Leine-biflod Dramme. Ved Meensen hæver Brackenberg sig, hvor resterne af borgruinen Brackenburg findes.
