Bassum ligger i den sydøstlige del af naturparken Wildeshauser Geest, cirka 25 km syd for Bremen, og gennemstrømmes af Klosterbæk. Den bassumer bydel Nordwohlde ligger ved Hombach; Neubruchhausen, den østligste bydel, ligger ved den øvre del af Hache.
Bassumer Utkiek er et 87 meter højt, kunstigt opbygget bjerg i bydelen Wedehorn. Det ligger på grunden til Affaldsvirksomhedsselskab mbH - Affaldscenter Bassum og er den højeste højdedel i Landkreis Diepholz.
