Halberstadt er administrationsby for Landkreis Harz i Sachsen-Anhalt. Byen ligger i den nordlige Harz-forland. Centrumm er mere end 80 % ødelagt af et luftangreb den 8. april 1945. Derefter blev den genopbygget eller nybygget over årtier.
Halberstadt ligger ca. 20 kilometer nord for Harz ved Holtemme og Goldbach. Nord for byen ligger bjerget Huy, mod øst Magdeburger Börde og mod syd Spiegelsberge, Thekenberge samt Klusberge. Med ca. 43.000 indbyggere er Halberstadt den største by i Landkreis Harz.
