Esens er en lille by i den ostfrisiske kommune Wittmund samt medlemskommune og administrationssæde for samkomponenten Esens.
Historisk set hørte byen – som det vigtigste centrale sted – til Harlingerland, som først i 1600 endeligt kom til grevskabet Ostfriesland gennem Berumer-forliget. Siden 1885 har Esens været en del af Wittmund kommune, som blev dannet af æmterne Wittmund og Esens samt byen Esens.
