Rosenthal var indtil dannelsen af Stor-Berlin i 1920 et selvstændigt godsdistrikt og en landsby i den nordlige del af Berlin. Landsbyen blev første gang nævnt som Rosendalle i 1356.
Med indlemmelsen blev den større del tilfaldt det nye distrikt Reinickendorf. Den mindre del kom som bydel Berlin-Rosenthal til det nye distrikt Pankow.
