Stiepel er en bydel i den sydlige del af Bochum, der mod sydøst og syd begrænses af Ruhr-floden, som fører til Witten og Hattingen. Den samlede areal af Stiepel er 12,46 km², hvilket gør den til den største bydel i Bochum. På Kemnader Straße 302 a ligger med 196 m over NN samtidig det højeste punkt i Bochum. Ved kirken i landsbyen når Stiepel en højde på 110 m over NN, ved Ruhr 70 m over NN, så der er store højdeforskelle over en kort afstand. Hovedtrafikåren er Kemnader Straße, som dog strækker sig indtil husnummer 39 i bydelen Weitmar.
