Lürschau ligger ved det 0,8 km² store Arenholzer Sø i et hede- og moselandskab. Arenholz, Hermannsort, Ruhekrug og Wilhelmslust tilhører kommuneområdet.
Lürschau ligger ved Ochsenweg, som i dele af kommuneområdet stadig er næsten i sin oprindelige tilstand. Her fandt den 28. september 1043 slaget på Lürschauerhede sted, hvor – hvis man skal tro krønikeskriveren Adam af Bremen – 15.000 vender blev dræbt. Sejrherre i slaget var kong Magnus af Norge, som tidligere havde været på plyndringstogt med sin flåde ved venderkysten. I kampen faldt venderhertugen Ratibor. Hans otte sønner samlede en hær, der drog over Ochsenweg til Jylland og der igen plyndrede inden for Magnus' magtområde.
