Finnentrop er med cirka 3.500 indbyggere den største bydel i den ligeså kaldte kommune Finnentrop i Kreis Olpe, Nordrhein-Westfalen i den sydlige del af Sauerland.
Navnet Finnentrop stammer fra den gamle by Finnentrop, som i dag kaldes Altfinnentrop og ligger et par hundrede meter op ad Bigge. Endelsen "trop" stammer fra "trop" eller "torp" for "landsby" og forekommer ikke sjældent i Nordrhein-Westfalen. Den nuværende by Finnentrop havde indtil 13. juli 1908 tre stednavne: Habbecke, Neubrücke og Bahnhof Finnentrop. Neubrücke bestod kun af en bygning ved sammenløbet af Bigge og Lenne. Den "nye bro" blev åbenbart allerede bygget i 1847, da "Reuter" måtte opkræve broafgift. Den videre nordligt beliggende by Habbecke, der oprindeligt også kun bestod af få gårde, må være opstået i middelalderen.
