Søen Schwielochsee ligger sydøst for Berlin ved den nordøstlige kant af Spreewald. I sin nordlige del bliver den gennemstrømmet af Spree, der kommer ind fra vest og forlader søen mod nord i retning mod Beeskow. Dens overflade tilhører fuldt ud kommunen Schwielochsee i Landkreis Dahme-Spreewald. Søen er med et vandareal på 13,3 km² den største naturlige sø i delstaten Brandenburg.
For første gang nævnes Schwielochsee i 1302 i et dokument fra landgreven af Thüringen, hvor det handlede om den frie skibsfart for borgerne i Lieberose. Gennem århundrederne har udtalen og stavemåden ændret sig. Eksempler på dette er fra 1302 Zwilow, 1757 Schwieloh, indtil 1879 Schwielochsee. Søens navn samt bynavne og marknavne er overvejende af nedersorbisk oprindelse.
