Räsa ligger i Ulstertal syd for Unterbreizbach ved landevejen 2604, ikke langt fra motorvejen 84 og ved den tidligere grænseomfartsbane for Ulstertalbahn. Den geografiske højde over havet for stedet er 240 m.
Regionen omkring Räsa er præget af kalimine. Den betegnes også som det hvide bjergenes land. Denne titel refererer til de vidt synlige, hvide affaldshøje fra kaliindustrien ved Hattorf og Heringen.
Kommunen Unterbreizbach, og dermed også bydelen Räsa, lå mellem 1949 og 1990 i det umiddelbare grænseområde mellem DDR og BRD.
