Ambleteuse begyndte som en landsby af nogle få hytter midt i klitterne, fra hvilken det nedladende navn "carcahuttes" engang blev givet til dens indbyggere af deres naboer i Audresselles. Årsagen til dens eksistens relaterer sig til de midlertidige behov hos forskellige angribere for at erobre folk fra begge sider af Den Engelske Kanal. Ambleteuse er en af kandidaterne til havnen, som Julius Cæsar brugte til at sejle ud fra for sin invasion af Storbritannien i 54 f.Kr., selvom Boulogne-sur-Mer er det mere almindeligt acceptede sted.
