Montreuil-sur-Mer ligger nu ikke lige ved havet... Havet ligger 15 km herfra. Indtil 1537 var denne by velstående, med en havn ved floden Canche, der havde direkte forbindelse til havet. Men alt blev til mudder, og da kejser Karl også passerede forbi med sin hær, var det smukke eventyr definitivt slut.
