Slottet blev grundlagt i 1188 af Kong Henry II af England og blev ødelagt i 1195 af Kong Philip II af Frankrig. Stedet blev restaureret i det 14. århundrede. Slottet blev senere i store dele rekonstrueret i 1433 af Charles des Marets. Slottet består af en kvadratisk indhegning med runde flankeringstårne og en lavere gård ved siden af. Det store vesttårn stammer måske fra det 14. århundrede og fungerede som borgen. Flere arkitektoniske stilarter er repræsenteret, og flint og sandsten er brugt i bygningerne. En murstensbastion og forskellige andre bygninger er blevet tilføjet til den oprindelige indhegning.
