Det ligger mellem Nîmes, Montpellier, Cevennerne og Camargue og har en stærk protestantisk historie.
Calvisson er en kommune i Gard 17 km vest for Nîmes. Den ligger i de nordlige fodbakker af Vaunage, en frugtbar dal omgivet af en kant af kalkstensbakker, der rejser sig op til 200 m. Den mest fremtrædende bakke er Gachone Klippen, som var stedet for en vigtig oppidum, eller en befæstet by, under romerne. Den naturlige vegetation er klassisk garrigue; i dag bruges dalen til vinmarker og horticulture. En lille bæk, Escattes, flyder gennem landsbyen [1]. Calvisson omfatter også landsbyerne Sinsans og Bizac.
