York er en katedralby og enhedsområde ved sammenløbet af floderne Ouse og Foss i England. Ved folketællingen i 2011 var befolkningen i kommunen 198.051, og befolkningen i byen var 153.717. Byen har gamle bygninger og strukturer, såsom en minster, et slot og gamle bymure.
Byen er hovedbosættelsen i det historiske Yorkshire og var sin egen amtskommune. City of York Council er en enhedsmyndighed, der er ansvarlig for at levere alle lokale tjenester og faciliteter i hele byen og de landlige områder udenfor de gamle bygrænser. Byen er også en del af North Yorkshire og Leeds byregion.
