York es una histórica ciudad fortaleza del norte de Yorkshire , condado del que es capital. En esta ciudad confluyen los ríos Ouse y Foss. La ciudad ha jugado un importante papel en sus 2000 años de historia.
La ciudad fue fundada como Eboracum en el año 71 d. C. por los romanos y la convirtieron en una de las dos capitales de la Britania romana. Durante ese periodo, grandes figuras estuvieron asociadas a esta ciudad, como Constantino el Grande. Todo el Imperio romano fue gobernado desde York por Septimio Severo durante un periodo de dos años.
