The Royal Exchange, Londons børs, blev grundlagt af købmand Thomas Gresham. Han var aktiv som handelsmand i Antwerpen og fangede der idéen om at oprette en børs. Her ligger nu Englands centralbank eller The Bank of England. Der er også en forbindelse til Belgien. Den første guvernør for Bank of England, John Houblon, var søn af en hugenot, der flygtede fra Hainaut. Guvernøren selv var gift med datteren af en flamsk immigrant. Da han døde i 1712, blev han begravet i kirken St. Christopher-le-Stocks.
