La Royal Exchange, la borsa di Londra, fu fondata dal commerciante Thomas Gresham. Era attivo come commerciante ad Anversa e prese l'idea di fondare una borsa da lì. Ora qui si trova la banca centrale d'Inghilterra, o The Bank of England. C'è ancora un legame con il Belgio. Il primo governatore della Banca d'Inghilterra, John Houblon, era figlio di un ugonotto fuggito dal Hainaut. Lo stesso governatore era stato vedovo della figlia di un immigrato fiammingo. Quando morì nel 1712, fu sepolto nella chiesa di St. Christopher-le-Stocks.
