HMS Victory blev søsat i 1765 ved Chatham Dockyard og blev indsat i 1778.
Hun fortsatte i aktiv tjeneste i de næste 34 år, hvilket omfattede hendes mest berømte øjeblik - Slaget ved Trafalgar i 1805.
I 1812 blev Victory trukket tilbage fra frontlinjetjeneste og ankret i Portsmouth Havn, på Englands sydkyst.
I de næste 110 år forblev Victory ved sin ankerplads i Portsmouth Havn og udførte en kombination af praktiske og ceremonielle opgaver.
I 1922, midt i frygten for hendes fortsatte overlevelse, blev Victory flyttet til Portsmouths Royal Naval Dockyard og placeret i No2 Dry Dock. Arbejdet begyndte derefter med at gendanne Victory til hendes 'kampskib' tilstand fra 1805 og fortsætter den dag i dag.
