Goyt stiger op på hedene ved Axe Edge, nær floden Dane og Cat and Fiddle Inn. Området er kendt som Upper Goyt Valley. Den gamle Cat and Fiddle Road fra Buxton til Macclesfield krydser floden lige når den drejer mod nord for at strømme ned ad sin velkendte dal. Floden strømmer derefter under Derbyshire Bridge, som var den gamle grænse mellem Derbyshire og Cheshire. Senere når den en gammel pakheste bro, der blev flyttet, da Errwood reservoiret blev bygget i 1960'erne (se foto nedenfor). Længere ned ad strømmen er der et andet reservoir, Fernilee reservoiret. Den oprindelige linje af Cromford og High Peak Railway kan ses nær dette punkt.
