Lufthavnen er opkaldt efter Aristarchos fra Samos, en gammel astronom og matematiker, og ligger 5 km fra den nærliggende by Pythagorio. Lufthavnen har en enkelt kort startbane, der betjener både ankomster og afgange. Lufthavnens omgivelser giver lidt plads til fejl eller misforståelser fra piloternes side - med nærliggende bjerge og havet i slutningen af den korte startbane. Der blæser ofte stærke Meltemi-vinde fra nord i sommermånederne, hvilket yderligere bidrager til vanskelighederne ved landing.
Der er kun én terminal i lufthavnen. Der er fem boarding-porte, hvoraf ingen har jetbroer. Passagerfaciliteterne er fordelt over to etager og inkluderer en toldfri butik og en lille café.
