Brisighella grænser op til følgende kommuner: Casola Valsenio, Castrocaro Terme e Terra del Sole, Faenza, Forlì, Marradi, Modigliana, Palazzuolo sul Senio, Riolo Terme. Det stammer fra et rocca-slot beordret af Maghinardo Pagani og senere udvidet af Francesco Manfredi, herre over Faenza.
Den afsluttende del af romanen The Gadfly af Ethel Lilian Voynich foregår i Brisighella. Denne historiske roman, nu forsømt i England eller i USA, næsten ukendt i Italien, var populær i den anden halvdel af det 20. århundrede, på grundlag af en marxistisk genovervejelse af sin plot, i USSR, kommunistiske lande i Østlige Europa, Mao Zedongs Kina osv.
