Buenen var den gamle Porta di San Maurizio al Ponte i de 1300-tals mure og fik sit navn fra den lille kirke San Maurizio (lokalt kaldet Samoreci) og den hævebro, der lå lige udenfor.
I dag er det en rundbue med en etage, der understøttes af kragsten og med to nicher indvendigt, hvor busteer af Medici-storhertugerne befinder sig.
