Museum Volkenkunde har siden 1837 været et nederlandsk rijksmuseum i Leiden. I 1937 blev det etableret i et monumentalt bygningskompleks i udkanten af byens centrum. Det fungerede før som et akademisk hospital. Siden 2013 har museet været en del af Nationalmuseet for Verdenskulturer. Museet åbnede i 1837 i Leiden som Samlingen Van Siebold. Det gør museet til et af de ældste etnografiske museer i verden. Kong Willem I gav tidligere lærde i opgave at indsamle samlinger i Kina, Indonesien og Japan. Lægen Philipp Franz von Siebold samlede omkring 1825 mange japanske genstande. Initiativet til oprettelsen af museet kom fra ham.
