Il Museo di Etnografia è dal 1837 un museo nazionale olandese a Leida. Nel 1937 è stato ospitato in un complesso monumentale alla periferia del centro città. Prima serviva come ospedale accademico. Dal 2013 il museo fa parte del Museo Nazionale delle Culture del Mondo. Il museo ha aperto nel 1837 a Leida come la Collezione Van Siebold. Ciò rende il museo uno dei più antichi musei etnologici del mondo. Il re Guglielmo I aveva già incaricato studiosi di raccogliere collezioni in Cina, Indonesia e Giappone. Il medico Philipp Franz von Siebold raccolse attorno al 1825 molti oggetti giapponesi. L'iniziativa per la fondazione del museo venne da lui.
