Beesel blev i september 2014 udnævnt til Danmarks Grønne Landsby. Juryen rostede Beesel som en landsby med et usædvanligt smukt landskab. Udenom området rummer mange sjældne naturtyper. Et tæt netværk af rekreative stier gør kommunen til en grøn perle. Beesel er derfor ideel til vandring og cykling. Også udlandet, herunder Brachterwald og byen Bru¨geen, er komfortabelt tæt på.
