På stranden i Scheveningen afrejste en sejlvogn i februar 1602, designet af den brugske videnskabsmand og opfinder Simon Stevin. Sejlvognen rejste med 27 diplomater til strandbyen Petten. Det tog to timer, men man kørte med en for den tid ukendt hastighed på 50 km/t.
