Slotet Groot Poelgeest blev sandsynligvis bygget omkring 1250. Det har været ejet af familien Van Poelgeest i århundreder og er blevet ødelagt og genopbygget et par gange. I 1717 var det bestemt blevet forladt og langsomt ødelagt til genbrug og af vejret. Kun en af indgangstårnene og øen er tilbage som bevis på slottet.
