Het Kasteel Groot Poelgeest is waarschijnlijk gebouwd rond 1250. Het is eigendom van de familie Van Poelgeest eeuwen en is verwoest en de wederopbouw van een paar keer. In 1717 het was zeker de steek gelaten en langzaam vernietigd voor hergebruik en door het weer. Slechts een van de ingang torens en het eiland te blijven als bewijs van het kasteel.
