I denne kirke ligger også videnskabsmanden Rembert Dodoens begravet. Født i 1517 i Mechelen, dør han her i Leiden i 1585. Han var både botaniker og læge. Dodoens' første vigtige bidrag til botanikkens verden var, at han selv begyndte at søge efter og beskrive planter. Dette førte til en enorm stigning i antallet af beskrevne arter. Han har selv beskrevet omkring 1340 arter, hvoraf cirka 600 var nye. I sin Cruydeboeck fra 1554 bryder han resolut med traditionen ved ikke længere at sortere planterne alfabetisk, men efter deres ydre karakteristika. Dette var af enorm betydning for biologien. På den måde dannede han et systematisk rammeværk, hvori planterne kunne placeres.
